Winter in Ohio

Not much on my mind to blog today, and I've been doing lots of other writing for classes, thesis, and such. So I thought I'd just post a few pics I've taken this winter. Enjoy!

I'm obsessed with these berry trees. No clue why, I just think they always look so photogenic. The bright red begging me to take a picture. And who doesn't love ice pictures?

I love the Where's Waldo factor with this one, even though he's not hard to find.

This one didn't turn out as well as I would have liked, but I love the effect of snow falling.

Of course, more ice...

And one more ice pic. I just like this one because the icicles on the door handle remind me of a verizon commercial :)

The trees under the weight of all that ice and snow!

My second home - aka my lab. I just love old brick buildings in winter.

And finally, not a very interesting shot. Unless you notice as I did the UFO in the upper right corner. No I'm not crazy, I have photographic proof! Unaltered, I swear ;)

How 'bout this weather

Woke up this morning to a blanket of fog. I just love the way it settles across the valley-ish area we live in. I managed to take some pictures while at work today.

I love this one. The effect is really cool.

I'd like to point out how dark it is in this pic. It was 8:30 in the morning, should be light by then!!!

I'm not a winter person

So I guess I'm in a little bit of a blogging rut. My inherent amount of spontaneous creativity appears to have run out, and work/school have been so crazy that I haven't had time to go out searching for some. So as a result, I am completely out of ideas to write about. It doesn't help of course, that it's winter, and winter in the midwest, nonetheless. So the view outside is always the same lately: dirty snow, barren branches, and drab colored things. As much as I love to watch snow fall, and the juxtaposition of a bright red cardinal against a pine tree over a blanket of snow, I am definitely not a winter person. Let me say it just once, because I hate to be a downer, but cold weather and I do not get along. It was nice living in Colorado, because in between the frigidness were a few warm days squeezed in. It's been quite a shock moving to Ohio, where once it gets cold, it stays that way for months on end.

I will add (because I hate to be a negative nancy) that there are a couple of things I like about winter - curling up under a blanket and reading a good book, making "winter" food like stews and potatoes, and of course a nice glass of merlot once in a while. Which, while I am far from being educated on, but merlot just seems like a cold weather wine to me. I also find it amusing that even though our cats have spent their entire lives indoors, they still get all puffy come December.

I'm off now to do number one on the list, and enjoy this 3 day weekend. (even though all my weekends are working weekends). Hope everyone enjoys their day off too! :)
